In our work we analyse the language of contemporary music by young Italian singers of African origin. We consider the rap and trap songs of the new generations from Francophone African countries as a creative field where some representatives of these musical genres reproduce sociolinguistic structures and functions that reflect the current repertoire of Italian society. Our case studies concern songs of the Italian-Tunisian Ghali Amdouni and the Italian-Congolese Époque, whose originality lies in their use of a profound and significant mixture of linguistic systems in contact in order to create texts of protest and civil engagement.
