This article examines the journey to becoming a writer for two French singers-songwriters-authors, Magyd Cherfi, lead singer of the group Zebda and rapper Abd al Malik. Having identified a major common theme in their writing, namely the “who am I in today’s France?” trope, we will analyze their autofiction to see what it brings to the “new national narrative that would integrate Europe and the world” (Abd al Malik).
