This essay explores the interplay between cinema and music in the contemporary representation of Naples. Drawing on Benjamin and Lācis’s concept of urban porosity, it traces how the Neapolitan New Wave and the alternative music scene known as Neapolitan Power have converged into a hybrid audiovisual language spanning film, television, and digital platforms. Through case studies – Sorrentino, Martone, the Manetti Bros., Mixed by Erry, Mare fuori, and Liberato – the essay argues that music functions as the primary semantic engine of Neapolitan storytelling, giving form to what visual and verbal language cannot express, within a distinctly glocal aesthetic framework.
